China ice festival gets Marilyn Monroe sculpture

A six-metre-tall ice sculpture of Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe has been unveiled in China's northeastern city of Harbin, as the city began its annual snow and ice festival.

The sculpture depicts Monroe from her iconic scene in the 1955 movie 'The Seven Year Itch', with her dress blowing up as she stands over a subway grate.

Camera-wielding tourists gathered in large numbers Thursday to take pictures with the sculpture.

The city's 28th Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival is currently underway, with 45 colourful ice sculptures on display.

This year's festival is scheduled to last for three months, during which tourists can take part in nearly 100 winter-themed activities.
