Schwarzenegger kept many secrets from wife Maria

(AP) ? Arnold Schwarzenegger says his lifelong penchant for secrecy and ability to put his emotions "on deep freeze" led him to keep many secrets from his wife Maria Shriver, eventually causing the dissolution of their marriage when he was forced to admit he fathered a child with the family's housekeeper years earlier.

Throughout their strained 25-year marriage, Schwarzenegger says he did not want to tell Shriver about crucial life decisions such as major heart surgery and running for California governor because he feared she would overreact and tell her well-connected family and friends.

In his new autobiography, "Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story," and in an interview airing Sunday on "60 Minutes," the former California governor acknowledges that his inability to be honest with people has hurt those closest to him.

"That's the way I handle things. And it always has worked. But, I mean it does not ? it's not the best thing for people around me because I sometimes ? some information I just keep to myself," Schwarzenegger tells reporter Lesley Stahl on "60 Minutes."

The former Mr. Universe traces his detachment to his bodybuilding days, where he says emotions make athletes lose.

"So I became an expert in living in denial," says the Hollywood action star and former governor.

Schwarzenegger praises Shriver throughout the book as a partner and friend who was essential to his success, but also admits to keeping her in the dark about many career decisions. Shriver filed for divorce in July.

Although he had been toying with the idea of running for governor for more than a year, Schwarzenegger waited until just days before the filing deadline for the 2003 recall to discuss it with Shriver, writing in the book that he "didn't want endless conversation about it at home."

Shriver opposed the idea, but was persuaded to soften her stance by her mother, Eunice Shriver, who told her to support her husband's ambitions, or he might resent her for the rest of his life. Despite that struggle, he also didn't inform her when he decided to seek a second term, writing that she had to read about it in the newspaper.

"Total Recall" will officially be published Monday. The Associated Press purchased an early copy.

But Schwarzenegger's biggest secret, the child he had with the family's housekeeper, became tabloid news last year after he left office. Shriver confronted him during a January 2011 counseling session and he finally acknowledged the boy, Joseph, was his. Schwarzenegger says he kept the secret from his wife for years because he was worried "it would get out."

He tells Stahl he never even had a conversation with the housekeeper, Mildred Baena, about the son. Instead, after he began noticing the boy's strong resemblance to him, around age 8, he just began giving Baena extra money.

"I kind of put it away and just said to myself, 'OK, I'm going to put this away. I'm going to fulfill my responsibilities,'" he tells Stahl.

He declined to say whether he has a relationship with the child, who is now about 15, and he said he didn't want to go into any more details about his relationship with Baena because he's already caused Shriver and their four children enough pain.

"I don't want to reawaken and kind of talk about it because it's not going to help them. And I just want to protect them as much as I can," he says.

There were other deceptions, too, including a "hot affair" with actress Brigitte Nielsen while filming the 1985 film "Red Sonja," when he and Shriver were living together. He admits to other affairs, but tells Stahl they are "something that's obviously between Maria and me."

Schwarzenegger says in the interview that his marriage and his family were the most important things in his life, but he caused them tremendous pain.

"So the thing that really meant the most to me kind of fell apart because of my doing," he says in the "60 Minutes" interview. "That is something that I will always look back and say, 'How could you have done that?'"

Save Money By Using Vinegar In Rental Carpet Cleaners [Carpets]

Save Money By Using Vinegar In Rental Carpet CleanersIf you rent a steam or hot water extraction carpet cleaner you may be tempted to buy the expensive branded cleaning solutions offered by the rental company but white vinegar also works quite well and for a fraction of the cost.

Household weblog Hostess with the Motzes used a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water with a few optional drops of lavender essential oil to counteract the odor of vinegar (liquid fabric softener can also be used for this purpose) in a Rug Doctor cleaner with no problems. At first she was concerned with damaging the cleaner but their website simply states that other products aren't recommended because they don't clean as well as the official commercial product.

After caring for my mother-in-law's not-quite-housebroken puppy for a week we had a few stains in the front room of our house that didn't want to come out with regular spray stain removers. We decided to rent a Rug Doctor hot water extraction cleaner since we haven't done a deep cleaning of the carpets since we bought our home. When you rent one of these machines it is customary to also buy the branded cleaning solutions and most people never think about alternatives mostly for fear of damaging the cleaner. We bought the cleaners that time because we had two coupons that combined to make them free with the rental but next time we rent one of these cleaners you can bet I'll try the vinegar method. Lessons From The Dramatic Slow-Motion Death Of Wikitravel

broken-globeOnce upon a time, in 2003, there were two entrepeneurs with a dream. Their names were Evan Prodromou and Michele Ann Jenkins, and they dreamed of a collectively edited global travel guide -- a Wikipedia for travel, if you will. So they created Wikitravel. And it went over like the proverbial "lead zeppelin." Two years later, a company named Internet Brands bought it from them for $1.7 million; pretty good money for those long-lost days before the startup craze began. And Wikitravel thrived, and lo, it was good. Until Paradise came crashing down in flames.

Intraductal carcinoma of the prostate should be clearly identified by ...

Posted on by Sitemaster

Back in September 2010, we reported on a paper that suggested that ?men diagnosed with intraductal carcinoma of the prostate on needle biopsy should receive definitive therapy for locally advanced disease, even in the absence of pathologically documented invasive prostate cancer.?

A recently published review in the journal Prostate (by Bonkhoff et al.) now suggests that there is?still a lack of appreciation that intraductal carcinoma of the prostate (IDCP) ?represents a clinically aggressive disease that continues to be misreported under the diagnostic category of high grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia? (HG-PIN).

According to Bonkhoff et al., data from recent histological, molecular, and clinical studies?show that IDCP differs significantly from HG-PIN, and that these differences?have major impact in terms of diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy of this subtype of prostate cancer. Specifically, they go on to note that?IDCP is associated with greater application of neoadjuvant androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), failure of?chemotherapy, and early disease recurrence after external beam radiation.?They also point out that?IDCP is associated with the presence of TMPRSS2-ERG gene fusion, which?has been?reported to be regulated by estrogens and their receptors.

The authors argue that IDCP ?is an aggressive phenotype of prostate cancer? and that it should be clearly differentiated from?HG-PIN and?carefully reported in pathologic reports on prostate biopsy and prostatectomy specimens.

Facebook Gifts swaps virtual trinkets for real life goods

Facebook Gifts swaps virtual trinkets for real life goods

Remember the Facebook Gift Shop, that place where you could pick up virtual Troll dolls and send them to your friends? Well, it died. But, a phoenix has arisen from its ashes -- Facebook Gifts -- which will allow you to send real Troll dolls to your friends. You'll be able to order gifts for people directly through the social network and suggestions to pick up a little something will be tied into birthday reminders and life events like weddings. The new initiative is the result of its decision to purchase Karma, a social "gifting" app, in May. Over a 100 retailers have signed up for the launch, including Starbucks, and Facebook obviously will be taking a small cut of each sale, which could be a huge source of monetization for the company, especially on the mobile front. Interestingly, friends can be notified before a gift is delivered and will be given a chance to tweak orders -- just in case you don't know your mom as well as you think you do. Gifts is rolling out slowly in select cities now and will expand in the coming weeks. Though, it also has a viral element since once you've been sent a gift you are also blessed with the ability to send gifts yourself. Check out the source links for more details.

School Teaching Jobs Made More Dynamic By Concerned And ...

There was a published report not too long ago about a gifted child who developed a disturbing case of anxiety when she started going to school. It turned out that her teachers and the school were not equipped properly to tackle the job of educating a child with unconventional needs, considering her superior learning aptitude.

In the report, the school and its faculty were callous about the developmental requirements of the child which was intensely disheartening for the parents; they were even considered "problem parents" because they expressed great concern about their child's change in behaviour and disposition about school. If you're a parent, you never want to find yourself in the same predicament especially because of its traumatic impact on your child.

However, there are teachers who greatly appreciate the "involvement" that some of their students' parents have in helping out the classroom situation. Proactive parents have actually made school teaching jobs so much easier which allowed and encouraged teachers to make their lesson presentations more dynamic and enjoyable for the students.

Even the seemingly trivial form of help as stopping by once a week to sharpen pencils for the grade school teachers is truly appreciated. Not many people know that elementary school teachers spend a substantial amount of time just keeping the class' pencils pointy, taking valuable time away from what they're really supposed to do which is assist their students with schoolwork. Some people think this "help" is beneath them but teachers have expressed that those parents who really take the time for the most mundane classroom issues are those who are truly committed to the proper education for their children.

Another thing that parents do to support the teacher is by doing their own reading of the school's lessons and suggesting books that can support the lessons. While not a lot of schools are willing to expand the resources of the students for their lessons, there are teachers who encourage extensive learning because they too benefit from it, especially in their desire to lead their students to a more dimensional level of comprehension of the subject.

Parents who take time to deliver mid-day treats on special school days, according to a group of elementary school teachers, help recharge and support the energy and interest levels of the students, making them more alert for the remaining school hours.

Lastly, parents are always the most important support for school fund-raisers aimed to benefit the students. Teachers claim that these types of involvement that their students' parents have are immensely helpful and these strengthen the children's ties with their schools in a highly advantageous way.

Adults may paddle students of opposite gender in Texas district

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - School administrators will be allowed to paddle students of the opposite sex under a rule approved unanimously Monday night by the school board in the North Texas community of Springtown.

Superintendent Michael Kelley said Tuesday the new policy would ensure both male and female students are treated equally since there are not enough administrators of both genders in some schools in Springtown, which has a population of about 2,600.

Under the previous policy, corporal punishment could only be carried out by an administrator who was of the same gender as the student. The new policy says that a school official of the same gender as the student must be in the room where the paddling takes place and that parents must provide written permission for their child to be paddled.

The punishment involves striking students on their clothed rear with a wooden paddle.

"We don't have a very large district and in our middle school there is only an assistant principal, who is a female," Kelley said. "If the old policy remains in place, then the parents of the boys at the middle school would not be able to request corporal punishment."

Texas is one of 19 states that allow public schools to administer corporal punishment, according to the Center for Effective Discipline. Even in those states, most urban schools have banned the practice and most districts that paddle kids are, like Springtown, small or rural communities. Texas allows parents to opt out of corporal punishment of their children.

In Springtown, which is northwest of Fort Worth, the paddling of two high school girls by a male assistant principal earlier this month prompted the change in policy. Kelley apologized to the girls during Monday night's school board meeting that their paddling violated the policy in place at the time.

It is not unusual for parents in Springtown to contact the school to request paddling for their children for offenses like using profanity or cheating on exams, Kelley said.

Jimmy Dunne, who heads the Texas-based group People Against Paddling Students, called Springtown's new policy "barbaric," and said he hopes it sparks debate that prompts Texas and other states to consider banning the practice.

"Children should not be hit with boards; it is legalized child abuse," Dunne said.

The Texas Association of School Boards recommends that corporal punishment be administered only by an administrator who is the same sex as the student.

Kelley said that corporal punishment works in small towns like Springtown because of the relationship between the district and the parents, most of whom have known each other all their lives.

"They're sitting beside that guy in church and they see that principal in the grocery store or at the restaurant," he said. "They have a sense of trust. So they'll call up and tell us, when their child commits an infraction, those parents will call up and tell that principal, 'Rather than in-school suspension, why don't you just give 'em a swat?'"

Obesity promotes prostate cancer by altering gene regulation

ScienceDaily (Sep. 25, 2012) ? Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men and early treatment is usually very successful. However, like other cancers, obesity increases the risk of aggressive prostate disease. New research, published in BioMed Central's open access journal BMC Medicine, finds that the fat surrounding the prostate of overweight or obese men with prostate cancer provides a favorable environment to promote cancer growth.

Fat is a generally underrated organ. Not only is it an energy store but it secretes a wide range of growth factors, cytokines and hormones, including leptin and adiponectin, and is a major player in the immune system, which protects the body from infection and disease. But too much fat can cause these systems to go haywire and can increase risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer.

An international team led by Prof Gema Fr?hbeck and Dr Ricardo Ribeiro analyzed fat, from around the prostate, taken from patients undergoing surgery for prostate disease. Samples were included from men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostate cancer (PC), and from men where their cancer was no longer confined to the prostate. The men were also classified as being either lean (BMI<25) or overweight /obese (BMI>25).

Regardless of type of prostate disease the overweight men had different levels of gene activity in the fat surrounding their prostates compared to the lean men. This included genes which encode proteins involved in immunity and inflammation (such as LEP, which encodes the protein leptin), and cell growth and proliferation (including ANGPT1 which encodes angiopoietin 1), fat metabolism and programmed cell death.

Additionally the activity of more genes was altered between hyperplasia and prostate cancer, and between cancer and non-confined cancer, suggesting a gradual increase in dysregulation during cancer progression.

Prof Fr?hbeck explained, "Both LEP and ANGPT1 encode proteins which are thought to have roles beyond adipose tissue itself, especially because prostate cancer cells have receptors for leptin, and angiopoietin 1. Taken together with the abnormal activity levels of other genes they will ultimately foster fat mass growth, reduce immune surveillance, and promote the formation of new blood vessels, so producing a favorable environment for prostate cancer progression."

Dr Ribeiro continued, "In an increasingly obese population, understanding how fat, especially the fat surrounding the prostate, can influence the growth and severity of prostate cancer may provide an opportunity for implementing personalized lifestyle and therapeutic strategies."

'Senseless' torture: Charity appeals for help for Syria's children

AP Photo/Muhammed Muheisen

A Syrian child stands next to rebel fighters checking a house that was damaged in bombing by government forces in Marea, on the outskirts of Aleppo, Syria, Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012.

By Ian Johnston, NBC News

Syria?s children are regularly the victims or witnesses of ?senseless acts of torture and violence,? according to a report Tuesday by a leading charity.

Save the Children?s report called ?Untold Atrocities, The Stories of Syria?s Children? details horrific accounts from Syrian refugees such as 9-year-old Nur, who said, ?I used to like hiding. Hiding is better than dying,? and Munther, 10, who told charity workers how a boy standing next to him was shot dead outside a school and he was hit in the neck.

Thousands of children have died in the conflict and ?many more have been injured, traumatized or forced to flee their homes,? the report said. ?Boys and girls continue to be killed, maimed and tortured. These appalling violations against children must stop and those carrying them out held to account.?

It added that the testimonies ?corroborate violations documented by the United Nations, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.?

?The acts described are consistent, recurring and appalling,? it said. The organization deals with children and families in both Lebanon and Jordan.

The charity is asking people to sign a petition, "Stop the Crimes Against Syria's Children" to U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

?Horrific acts of violence are being committed against children in Syria,? Carolyn Miles, Save the Children?s president and CEO, said in a press release. ?These children need specialist care now to help them recover from their shocking experiences. Their testimonies should also be documented so that these violent acts against children are not committed with impunity.?

Syrian child, Taybah Al-Hajji, 1, whose family fled their home in Aleppo due to Syrian government shelling, sits next to her one-month-old brother Abdulghani, at the Bab Al-Salameh border crossing near Turkey.

Miles is in New York for the United Nations General Assembly hearings this week. On Tuesday, President Barack Obama condemned Syrian President Bashar Assad as ?a dictator who massacres his people? in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly.

Kathryn Bolles, the charity's senior director of emergency health and nutrition, told NBC News by phone that atrocities against children were being carried out by all sides.

She said that the stories in the report, detailed below, were illustrative and that there were "hundreds of thousands of families that are going through this."?Bolles added that some of the names had been changed to protect the children and their families.

NYT:?In Arab Spring, Obama finds harsh lessons on diplomacy

Nur, who is now living with her family in the Za?atari refugee camp in Jordan, told the charity that she did not play. ?Why? Because I am not young anymore. I go to the bathroom, take a shower and then sleep. That is all,? she said.

Jonathan Hyams/Save the Children

Nur, nine, came to Jordan with her family to escape the violence in Syria. She now lives in a tent with her family in Za'atari refugee camp in the desert of northern Jordan where conditions are harsh and the camp authorities are underfunded and struggling to meet the basic needs of the overwhelming numbers of refugees arriving each day.

She said she had once been happy in Syria. ?Then the violence started and they started to make us suffer. There was nothing that they did not use to hurt us with,? she said.

The Arab Spring is dead -- and Syria is writing its obituary

Nur spoke of Syrian forces using airstrikes, bombings, missiles and ?every weapon you could think? against people in her home village.

?I was terrified. Us along with my cousins, neighbours, aunts and people we know used ?to go to the shelter to hide. I used to like hiding. Hiding is better than dying,? she said.

'I ran and I cried'
Ten-year-old Ala?a told how he ran ?so fast? when shells started to fall. ?I ran and I cried at the same time,? he said.

?When we were being bombed we had nothing. No food, no water, no toys ? nothing,? he said.

??One day men with guns broke into our house. They pulled out our food, threw it on the floor and stamped on it, so it would be too dirty to eat. Then we had nothing at all. Soon after that we came here.?

NBC's Richard Engel, who has just returned from his third trip inside Syria, since the uprising began, joins Andrea Mitchell Reports to discuss the situation on the ground.

Syria activist: Hundreds feared dead as Assad escalates airstrikes

Ala?a's father, Nabil, said his son ?cries a lot without telling us why and he?s started sleepwalking. My other child has started to stutter.?

?The younger children still cry when a plane goes overhead or a pot falls to the ground,? he said. ?They?re traumatized. I?ve spoken to lots of parents and they say the same thing. No child has escaped this. Children aren?t children anymore. Watch any child. They play and look normal, but they can only keep this up for a while, and then they become sad again.?

He said he had seen children used as human shields in the village of Saydeh. ?When two tanks came into the village I saw children attached to them, tied up by their hands and feet, and by their torsos. The tanks came through the village and no one stood in their way or fought because we knew we would kill the children,? he said.

?After that happened I cried like a woman. I was close to losing my mind. I have never felt so helpless as the moment I saw those children strapped to those tanks,? he added. ?? Let everyone know this is where this terrible thing happened.?

'She died feeling sad'
Omar, 11, who also lives in the Za?atari refugee camp, told the charity workers that one day he was playing with his brother, and the two boys were teasing their cousin.

?She was upset. She left us and went to her house. That night, a shell destroyed my nine-year-old cousin?s house ? the one we?d upset during the day. I regret that she died feeling sad,? he said.

Mission 'nearly impossible': Syria envoy downbeat on new job

The report said 10-year-old Munther, who said he wanted to be a doctor, had two bullet-sized wounds on his neck.

?I was on the street when the bullets were first fired. We were standing outside a school ? we?d just posed for a photo. There were lots of children around,? he said.

?Then the shooting started. There was chaos. Everyone was screaming. There were bullets and blood everywhere. A boy called Amjad was standing next to me. He was shot in the head. I didn?t realize at first that he was dead. He fell forward on his knees, in a praying position. He was 15,? he added.

?Then I felt a terrible pain. I?d been shot too ? in my neck. Here, see my scars ? Luckily I was with my friend?s mother. She picked me up and took me straight to a clinic to get help. I recovered from the shooting. We held a funeral for Amjad. Lots of people came. ? I was so sad that day.?

Critter Camp Exotic Animal Sanctuary earns $10,000 grant - WREX ...

GERMAN VALLEY (WREX) -

Animals, who don't have a home, will have a new place to move around in, after a German Valley organization wins a contest on Facebook, by accident.

"It's just really refreshing to see a big company stand by what they did and what they said," says Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary Director Beth Randall. "And we're just really grateful for what they did. And it'll help us rescue hundreds more animals, and take care of the ones that we have."

Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary is a small non-profit business, that after last week, earned a big chunk of money from Chase Bank's Community Giving program. The bank announced the winners of its Facebook contest, but the business made a mistake. It gave twenty extra organizations the money. But since it was Chases' error, the company stuck to its word.

"He told us that they were gonna go ahead and award the $10,000 to all the groups," says Randall. "So it was fantastic, because they were all little groups like ours, with budgets in the $30,000 range, if not less, and $10,000 means so much to small groups like ours."

The sanctuary rescues dozens of species of animals from all across the country, including local ones like this baby rabbit, that was found at the Winnebago County Fair. Plus more unique pets, like giant tortoises, family members that grow a little too big for a house. And there's plenty of work to go around.

"Oh I do trash," says Beth's son Alex Randall, who also volunteers at the sanctuary. "I carry heavy things. I feed the rabbits and guinney pigs. I do the water. Yep I do, and I uncovered the birds. Sometimes I help with a lot of things a little."

And with nearly 350 animals, from 30 species, they have big plans for the $10,000. A new building, set to open next fall, that will house nearly 1,000 animals, open seven days a week for tours.

"I'll have a house again," Randall says. "I haven't had a house in like 10 years. So yah, it'll be nice."

Randall says it'll also help with day to day tasks, like feeding the animals they already have.

Bees decrease food intake, live longer, when given compound found in red wine

ScienceDaily (Sep. 24, 2012) ? The idea that drinking red wine may provide health benefits -- or possibly even extend your life -- is an appealing thought for many people. Now, there may be added attraction. Researchers have found that when given resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, bees consume less food.

Previous scientific studies on resveratrol show that it lengthens the lifespan of diverse organisms ranging from unicellular yeast to fruit flies and mice. Since bees are social animals like humans, a team of scientists from Arizona State University, the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, and Harvard Medical School, decided to test the effects of the chemical on the honey bee.

In a series of experiments published in the journal Aging, the scientists tested the effects of resveratrol on the lifespan, learning ability, and food perception in honey bees.

Their research has confirmed that not only does this compound extend the lifespan of honey bees by 33 to 38 percent, it also changes the decisions that bees make about food by triggering a "moderation effect" when they eat.

"For the first time, we conducted several tests on the effects of resveratrol by using the honey bee as a model," said Brenda Rasc?n, an ASU alumnus and doctoral student with Gro Amdam, an associate professor in ASU's School of Life Sciences and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. "We were able to confirm that under normal living conditions, resveratrol lengthened lifespan in honey bees."

Since resveratrol is an antioxidant, researchers also questioned whether it would be capable of diminishing the damaging effects of "free radicals" -- often released during stressful conditions. Free radicals are believed to cause damage to cells, and have an effect on how we age. Resveratrol did not, however, prove to extend lives of bees living under stressful conditions.

Yet, since the bees tested with the compound were living longer, researchers asked the next question: What's happening that is causing them to live longer?

"Because what we eat is such an important contributor to our physical health, we looked at the bees' sensitivity to sugar and their willingness to consume it," said Amdam. "Bees typically gorge on sugar and while it's the best thing for them, we know that eating too much is not necessarily a good thing."

Interestingly, Amdam, Rasc?n, and their research team discovered that bees given the compound were less sensitive to sugar. By using different sugar solutions -- some very diluted and some with stronger concentrations -- they found that bees receiving resveratrol were not as interested in eating the sugar solutions unless the sugar was highly concentrated. The bees basically changed their perception about food.

In a final experiment, they measured how much food the bees would consume if given the opportunity to eat as much sugar water as they possibly could.

"Surprisingly, the bees that received the drug decreased their food intake," said Rasc?n. "The bees were allowed to eat as much as they pleased and were certainly not starving -- they simply would not gorge on the food that we know they like. It's possible resveratrol may be working by some mechanism that is related to caloric restriction -- a dietary regimen long known to extend lifespan in diverse organisms."

The Research Council of Norway and the PEW Charitable Trust funded this study.

RIM fixes BlackBerry outage that hit Europe, Middle East, Africa

RIM?s BlackBerry e-mail service was offline earlier today for users across the Europe, Middle East, Africa. But service has since been restored, according to the company.

Research In Motion confirmed the outage in a tweet earlier today and said that services should now be up and running again.

A spokesman for RIM sent CNET the following statement from CEO and president Thorsten Heins:

I want to apologize to those BlackBerry customers in Europe and Africa who experienced an impact in their quality of service earlier this morning. The BlackBerry service is now fully restored and I can report that no data or messages were lost. Up to 6 percent of our user base may have been impacted. Preliminary analysis suggests that those customers may have experienced a maximum delay of 3 hours in the delivery and reception of their messages. We are conducting a full technical analysis of this quality of service issue and will report as soon as it concludes. I again want to apologize to those customers who were impacted today.

Though short-lived, the outage came at the worst possible time ? Apple?s new iPhone goes on sale today. RIM has been struggling to win back part of the healthy market share it once owned. But like other mobile players, the company faces a landscape dominated by Apple and
Android.

This was also the latest in a line of BlackBerry outages.

Almost a year ago, more than 10 million BlackBerry customers in Europe and other parts of the world were hit by a outage that lasted several days.

The problem spread overseas to the U.S. and Canada before finally being resolved.

The outage triggered a lawsuit against RIM and prompted the company to offer free games and other apps to disgruntled customers.

Other BlackBerry outages have occurred over the years, including one in 2008, one in 2007, and another in 2006.
