Microsoft General Manager accidentally reveals ?New Xbox? ? Video Games Update

Brian Hall, the General Manager of the Windows Live team has accidentally revealed the existence of the ?New Xbox? in a podcast on Verge.

Microsoft released the Xbox 360 in the end of 2005 and many gamers would agree that the console was considerably underpowered when compared to PC tech at the time of its release. It has been almost seven years since then and Microsoft seems to think that the Xbox 360 still has plenty of life left.

In order to compete with the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft released the Kinect Motion camera add-on for the Xbox 360 in 2010 and stated that it would extend the life of the console by almost five years. The Motion control peripheral has done very well in the market with over eighteen million units sold so far but it has not impressed the core gamers.

The supposedly Core Kinect titles so far have flopped hard and gamers are looking to Microsoft to live up to their claim that Kinect would be suitable for games other than casual. However due to the hardware limitations of the device, lag free motion control is not possible at the moment which means that it is unlikely that a core game could work with Kinect as the main controller.

Microsoft however seems adamant that it will not be releasing the next generation Xbox anytime soon despite protests from many of the leading game developers and publishers who believe that it?s now time to ditch the old current generation hardware.

?We just decided it was time to do something new and bring the best from each of those and put them together and release it right in time for the new wave of products that we could have coming out with Windows 8, with the new version of Office with the new Windows phone and the new Xbox,? stated Hall which means that Microsoft might be really close to unveiling the next Xbox after all.

Many analysts also believe that Microsoft is likely to reveal the next generation Xbox after the release of Halo 4 or around the time when Nintendo launches its next generation console, the Wii-U, this fall.
